Rockland Improvement Work

Update Summer 2016:

We have received and tested the water cannon.

Our new shed is on the way.

We are working with the town to get a coupling installed to attach the water cannon to the source and begin watering.

Our dedicated volunteer Kevin Feehily can be seen here testing the water cannon.

Thanks to the diligence of our dedicated board members and the support of the Town of Maynard we have made significant progress with the Rockland Project

Pictured below is the apparatus that allows us to hook up water to our water cannon at Rockland (in order to comply with state regulations we did not install underground irrigation).

We are in the process of purchasing a water cannon and will begin watering the fields in Spring.

Special thanks to Kevin Feehily for his work on this.

Together with the town of Maynard and using CPC funds that we applied for, in addition to MYS Field Fund that our families have generously donated we are gradually improving Rockland Field.

Our General Plan is as follows (some of this has been done):

  • Clean up Rockland and Remove Excess Scrub Growth  (Done!)
  • Aerate the Field in Spring, Aerate and See in Fall (Both Done)
  • Secure Sponsorship Money to fund yearly maintenance (Done)
  • Find a Vendor to create a yearly maintenance plan (Done!)
  • Get Water to the field (Done)
  • Install a watering system (Done)
Update Spring 2015
We had some damage done to the field this past Fall that we need to fix.

We are working with the town to get water to the field, but they have been unable to help us fix the damage itself.
We are waiting to hear back from the town on when we get the water pipe installed (since April 27th).

A team of MYS volunteers went down and fixed the field before the Spring season got underway and we were able to remove the ruts but the grass will not grow in those areas.

The pictures of the damage are below:
