Become a Referee
Becoming a referee is an excellent way to learn soccer to the next level, give back to the community and earn money. Beyond the USSF certification courses, we provide support, mentorship and guidance to the referee team each Saturday. Just as a player wouldn't expect to be playing without a coach's support, we don't expect you to referee without support.

Would you like to be a referee? Here’s what it takes:

-
Have a love for soccer and a desire to help others learn and play the game.
-
Have a willingness to display a positive, professional yet humble attitude at each game.
-
Have the desire to learn the game at the "next level" - one that will improve your enjoyment of the game as a player, coach and fan.
-
Be at least 14 years old to become a Licensed Referee by following the steps on Massachusetts State Referee Committee's web site.
-
If you’re at least 12 years old and interested MYS’s Genesis Referee Program is your pathway.
-
You’ll complete a combination of online and/or in person (if preferred) courses, as well as on-field training and mentorship.

Refereeing is not just for kids. Adults are also invited to join our team. Earning your referee patch opens a whole new perspective on soccer and many future opportunities!

Upon entering the program, you’ll initially work as part of a referee team on 7v7 games in the 9:00am & 10:30am time slots, building to the 9v9 games at the 12:00p, and 1:30pm time slots. As you gain experience and confidence, we’ll increase the level of the games to match your individual referee development. While refereeing can seem difficult, it is also supposed to be fun. If the referee is having fun - the players are having fun!
