Please have players arrive 10-15 mins early to check in. Players should be dressed for soccer activity, bring plenty of water, shin guards, and a soccer ball. They should not wear uniforms (in fact, please make sure whatever shirt they wear does NOT have a number on it, as we will be randomly assigning numbered pinnies for the assessments). We will collect the pinnies when we wrap up.

FAQs:

Are these player assessments "tryouts"?

No. MYS does not cut players so players are not trying out.

Are these sessions mandatory?

The short answer is no. However, if your player does not attend these sessions, then we will be without a key data point when we form rosters for next year. We will solicit an evaluation for your player's coach and that will provide key data points as well; however, if we do not get an evaluation from the coach, then these assessments might be our only opportunity to better understand who your player is. It is ALWAYS better to attend these sessions than to skip them.

Can my player still play if they do not attend the assessments?

Yes. However, MYS will be relying on what we know of your player when determining which team/roster to place them on.

Why are assessments conducted?

Our league, the Nashoba Valley Youth Soccer League (NVYSL), consists of competitive and recreational play. Our goal is to provide an environment where players can enjoy the game, develop as soccer players, and compete with and against like-ability soccer players. In order to satisfy these goals, we need to understand players differing abilities and place them on rosters appropriately. Those rosters are then evaluated as a whole so that we can place teams in the appropriate divisions within the league to create balanced competition.

Why don't you invite other grades (Grade K, 1/2, and 7-12 players) to assessments?

Our kindergarten and grade 1/2 programs are in-town programs where we follow a different approach to roster formation. For the older grades, we rarely get enough registrations to warrant multiple teams.

BEST OF LUCK
